Nach einem recht unruhigen Seetag, der zwar viel Sonne aber auch viel „Schaukelei“ brachte, haben wir unser erstes Ziel erreicht. Puerto Plata in der Dominikanischen Republik. Auffallend freundlich und musikalisch beschwingt bereits die Begrüßung am Ende eines unendlich langen Anlegestegs, der allerdings mit „dominikanischen“ Tuk-Tuk’s überwunden werden konnte. Jhdt. das Land zunächst aus der spanischen Herrschaft befreien half, später dann Interimspräsident und in Folge Botschafter der jungen Dominikanischen Republik in Frankreich war. Es war dieser besondere Nationalstolz, der den jungen uniformierten Führer und das Museum so interessant und spannend machte.

Die beiden folgenden Stationen waren leider reine „Verkaufsstationen“, eine Rum-Destillerie (Macorix) und eine Schmuckfabrik, in der die Schätze des Landes, Bernstein und Aquamarin verarbeitet wurden.

Nur wenig Zeit blieb da für das alte spanische Fort von Puerto Plata, das bilderbuchmäßig an der Küste liegt und Teil einer wunderschön angelegten Parkanlage ist. An dieser Stelle brechen sich die Wellen des hier sehr flachen Meeres, das sich im weiteren Verlauf in allen denkbaren Farben öffnet.
